Issues Raised on Proton Persona

Second national carmaker Perusahaan Otomobil Kedua Sdn Bhd (Perodua) is optimistic that sales of its best selling model myvi not be affected by the recent entrance slim 1.6 Proton Persona sedan in the local automotive market.

"It would also benefit the provider. Since both Perodua and Proton have the same provider, would with more products on the market contribute to the volume of their business," he told reporters in Rawang yesterday. 
 
Syed Hafiz was the national flag to pass Perodua staff, in conjunction with the 50th Merdeka celebration. Myvi was launched in 2005, is currently the best-selling model in Malaysia, representing more than 30 percent of the total passenger car sales nationwide. 


Syed Hafiz said Perodua Meanwhile, export targets its latest model Viva to Singapore, the Middle East and the United Kingdom to replace until next year to its current biggest export market model - Kelisa - had already stopped production last year. 


Last year 3,000 vehicles were exported Perodua and the number is expected to double to 6,000 this year and reached 10.000 by 2009. 


"As much as we want to see more cars Perodua entering the international market, our current production capacity does not allow us to do so. It looks like we're catching up to meet the local demand to be. 


"We will step by step. So we are now in the process of expanding our existing facility, so that we increase the ability, production capacity of 200,000 to 240,000 cars per year. 


"The expansion is expected the plant, estimated to cost some RM300 million Perodua to be completed by the end of the year," he added. 





Perodua, which is 160,000 vehicles sold last year, or 40 percent of the domestic passenger car sales with a slightly better sales of 161,000 units this year.
